Cambodia Land Border Crossings

Official checkpoints, e-Visa entry status and Google Maps links

Cambodia has international land border crossings with Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. Below is a practical list of the main officially listed passenger checkpoints. Always verify current opening hours, visa rules and border status before travel, as the situation can change.

Important (as of late 2025 / 2026): Most Thailand–Cambodia land borders are currently closed or restricted due to ongoing border issues. e-Visa entry is currently accepted only at a limited number of land ports (see columns below). Official source: evisa.gov.kh.

Which borders accept Cambodia e-Visa for entry?

According to the official Cambodian e-Visa portal (last major update August 2025, still referenced in 2026):

  • e-Visa entry currently accepted at land borders:
    • Bavet (Svay Rieng) – Vietnam side
    • Tropaeng Kreal / Trapeang Kriel (Stung Treng) – Laos side
  • Temporarily closed for e-Visa entry (until further notice):
    • Poipet (Banteay Meanchey) – Thailand
    • Cham Yeam (Koh Kong) – Thailand
  • All other listed land borders: e-Visa entry not supported (exit is usually possible).
  • Airports that accept e-Visa: Techo International Airport (Phnom Penh), Siem Reap Angkor International Airport, Sihanoukville International Airport.

You may still exit Cambodia at most official checkpoints regardless of how you entered. Visa on Arrival (VOA) availability also varies by crossing and nationality — check before travel.

Visa on Arrival (VOA) – where it is available & requirements

Visa on Arrival is available at Cambodia’s international airports and at the main international land borders (when those borders are open for passenger traffic). It is the practical option when e-Visa is not accepted at your chosen checkpoint, or for cruise-ship arrivals.

Requirements
  • Passport valid at least 6 months beyond entry date, with at least one blank page
  • 1 recent passport-size colour photo (white/light background)
  • USD 30 (Tourist) or USD 35 (Business) in clean, undamaged US-dollar notes (exact amount preferred)
  • Return or onward ticket may be requested
  • Completed arrival form (paper at many land borders; e-Arrival Card is mainly for air arrivals)
Where VOA is typically available
  • Airports: Techo International (Phnom Penh), Siem Reap Angkor, Sihanoukville International
  • Main land borders (when open): Bavet, Tropaeng Kreal, and historically Poipet & Cham Yeam
  • Seaport: Sihanoukville cruise / passenger terminal (e-Visa is not accepted for cruise arrivals)
  • Smaller secondary land posts may issue VOA but procedures can be less consistent — confirm in advance

Processing usually takes 15–45 minutes. Officers can take a photo for a small extra fee if you forget one. Always request a receipt for the official fee.

Cambodia – Thailand Border

When these borders are open for passengers, Visa on Arrival is normally available. e-Visa entry is currently restricted or closed at the main Thai crossings.

This is the main (and practically the only) international land route used by travellers between southern Laos (Si Phan Don / 4000 Islands area) and northeastern Cambodia. It accepts Cambodia e-Visa for entry.

Cruise Ship – Sihanoukville Seaport

Sihanoukville (Preah Sihanouk) is Cambodia’s main deep-water port and the primary cruise-ship gateway. Cruise vessels typically berth at the Old Jetty Quay / passenger facilities in the port area.

Important for cruise passengers
  • e-Visa is not accepted for entry by sea / cruise ship. Do not rely on an e-Visa obtained for airports or land borders.
  • Visa on Arrival is the standard option. Many cruise lines organise the visa onboard or at the pier (fee is often higher than the official USD 30 land/airport rate — commonly around USD 60–65 when processed through the ship).
  • Requirements are the same as other VOA: passport (6+ months validity + blank page), passport photo, and payment in USD cash (or as arranged by the cruise line).
  • Shore excursions and independent travel are possible once immigration is cleared. The port is close to beaches, the islands (Koh Rong etc.) and the town centre.
  • Cruise schedules change; check your line’s latest itinerary. Ships have called at Sihanoukville on Asia itineraries operated by lines such as Oceania, Regent, Holland America, Princess and others (berth typically listed as Old Jetty Quay).

Source references include official e-Visa port guidance (air only for Sihanoukville International Airport) and cruise industry schedules (e.g. crew-center.com port listings). Always confirm visa handling with your cruise operator before departure.

Practical notes for travellers

  • Always check the official e-Visa port list before applying: evisa.gov.kh – Ports of Entry.
  • Print your e-Visa approval letter and carry the same passport used in the application.
  • Visa on Arrival (cash USD) is available at many international checkpoints, but availability and fees can vary.
  • Opening hours differ by crossing; major ones such as Bavet often operate longer hours than smaller posts.
  • Overland bus and private transfer services are widely available to/from the major open crossings (especially Bavet).
  • Border status with Thailand remains fluid — flying into Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville is currently the most reliable option from Thailand.
