Complete travel guide — things to see & do, how to get there, where to stay and eat
Sihanoukville (also known as Kampong Som) is the main gateway to Cambodia’s southern islands. While the mainland town has changed rapidly in recent years, the nearby islands — especially Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem — still offer beautiful beaches, clear water, diving and a relaxed island atmosphere.

Quieter sandy beach south of town — swimming, sunbeds, beach bars and a relaxed vibe.
Long sandy stretches with resorts and public access. Independence Beach has a historic hotel backdrop.
Main island: white sand, clear water, snorkelling, diving, jungle and nightlife at Koh Tuch. Ferry ~45–90 min from Sihanoukville.
More tranquil sister island. Saracen Bay is the main beach with bungalows; the west side is quieter. Excellent for relaxing and basic snorkelling/diving.
Coastal park with mangroves, beaches, jungle trails and boat trips — good for nature near the mainland.
Inland waterfall and swimming area (best after rain; busy on weekends).
By air: Sihanoukville International Airport (KOS).
By road: 3.5–4.5 h from Phnom Penh by bus, minivan or private car.
To islands: Scheduled speedboats/ferries to Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem. Book ahead in high season; weather can cancel services.
Fresh seafood is the highlight — grilled fish, prawns, crab and squid at beach restaurants. Island menus are simpler; mainland Otres offers more variety.
